Paul N. Acchione, M. Eng., P. Eng., FCAE

Paul has B.A.Sc. and M. Eng. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Paul is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario and is a member of OSPE, CAE, ASME, ANS, and IEEE. Paul has over 48 years of engineering and management experience in the nuclear and fossil power generation industry. He worked with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and its predecessor companies in their fossil and nuclear engineering divisions from 1971 to 2002. He currently does consulting work through Market Intelligence & Data Analysis Corporation. He was the 2013-14 President and Chair of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE). Paul was made a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 2014.

During his career Paul held a number of positions including design engineer, design engineer specialist, supervising design engineer, project manager and department manager. He received 2 new technology awards and a product champion award. Paul’s experience included simulation studies of the performance of nuclear and fossil generation plants and their integration with the electrical grid during normal operation and power system disturbances. Paul has had a dozen technical papers published related to his design, simulation and project management experience while at OPG and its predecessor companies. His consulting career includes projects for Bruce Power, OPG, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), and Atomic Energy of Canada.

Paul's professional interest is in energy systems that can provide Ontario with a safe, affordable, reliable and environmentally sustainable energy supply. Of particular interest to Paul in the near term is creating an interruptible electricity market at the retail level so that surplus clean electricity can be used to economically displace fossil fuels for heat energy and transportation energy.
